Using BIM vs Reality
BIM vs Reality is a split-screen comparison mode that syncs your live BIM model with a real capture of the same space — a 360° photo or a Gaussian Splat render — so you can see design and reality side by side. It's launched from a calibrated point cloud in the Capture Hub, and is a different feature from the fixed-camera comparisons in 3D Views and Progress Tracking.
1. Accessing BIM vs Reality
1. Open a Calibrated Point Cloud:
- In the Capture Hub, open the Captures tab and select a point cloud that has been calibrated. The split-view buttons stay disabled until calibration is done. 2. Choose a Split-View Mode:
- From the point cloud's bottom panel, click 360° View or Gaussian Splat to open the corresponding split view.
2. 360° Split View
- The left pane shows the live BIM viewer, locked to the capture's position; the right pane shows the 360° photo taken at that same point.
- Look around in either pane and the other stays in sync — orientation updates both ways.
3. Comparing Multiple Recordings
- Add a second 360° photo from a different capture date at the same location as a third pane, so you can compare two points in time.
- Use Link/Unlink to lock the second recording's orientation to the primary pane, or free it to look around independently.
4. Gaussian Splat Split View
- The left pane shows the live BIM viewer; the right pane shows a free-fly Gaussian Splat render of the same space, mirroring your full camera position and orientation as you move around.
5. Ghosting Elements
- Pick a BIM element to overlay ("ghost") it into the reality pane for a direct visual comparison against what's actually built.
- Right-click to hide ghosted elements you no longer need.
6. Best Practices
- Calibrate Promptly: split view is unavailable until a point cloud is calibrated — do this soon after capture.
- Use Multi-Recording Comparison: compare two dated 360° recordings at the same location to spot changes over time, rather than relying on memory.
